[Exam Analysis] HPAS 2016 Prelims Exam Analysis Conducted on 25th June, 2017

HPPSC conducted HPAS  2016 Prelims on 25th June, 2017 at the various Centres in Himachal Pradesh.

HPAS 2016 Prelims Exam was almost similar to Previous Year. Factual questions dominated this year. Overall the Exam was easy to moderate. Section Wise this year question paper was very very balanced and exactly followed the previous year trend.

Update : HPAS 2016 Prelims Official Answer Keys are Out

 11

 Static Science + Tech
 10

 20

 Current Events (Mainly Schemes, Persons,
Awards)
 25

 Total Questions
 100

Note : Some Sections may Overlap Like Current, Socio-economic & Misc etc.

Analysis : Questions were asked form various sections this year all  the sections were distributed very carefully.  Himachal GK, Environment & Biodiversity were somewhat difficult and tricky and more factual. HPPSC continued the trend of Current Affairs questions second year in a row. Polity, History, Current affair were quite easier than previous year, although Geography questions were tricky.  Here is the distribution of Questions section wise:

Possible Attempts : 65-80

Good Score : 110-125

************************************************************************************

Paper 2 : General Aptitude Test

Time : 2 Hours | Max Marks : 200 | Questions: 100

Topics

Questions
Reasoning (Analogy, Odd man, Coding-Decoding, Series, Decision making, Venn Diagram, Direction test, Blood test, Ranking, Syllogism, Non Verbal, Missing Numbers etc )

  25

Mathematical Ability ( Data Interpretation, Numbers, Train, Time and Work, Marked Price, Percentage, Time-Work, Simplification, Clock, Geometry, Age, Probability etc  )

  25

Behavioral Psychology + Decision Making + Interpersonal Skills (Useless Stuff :D)
  20

 English (Comprehension, blanks)

  30

 Total Questions
  100

Analysis : This paper was also moderate. It consisted Reasoning, Mental ability, Maths, Behavioral Psychology, Decision making, Interpersonal skills and English.
Reasoning was easy while Maths Part was moderate. English section was easy this time, but the toughest section for most of the aspirants was Behavioral Psychology, Decision making, & Interpersonal skills. Problem with these question is that all the option seems possible answer so its never easy to answer them.

Because the Aptitude Paper is now just Qualifying aspirants attempted lesser questions and played safe. So there were no horrific scenes this time in this paper like previous years.

Possible Attempts : 60-70

Good Score : Above 100

This paper is Just Qualifying and you Just need 67 Marks to Pass Paper 2 that means you just have to do 34 Question correctly. I think that's not a very difficult job for those who are preparing seriously.

*****************************************************************************

Predicted HPAS 2016 Prelims Cut off Score will be between:

SC : 90-95
ST : Above 80

Note : Cut off is based on certain parameters, although no one can exactly predict the Cut off these exams. Aim of these predictions is to make serious candidates aware of the chances for the mains so that they can have a idea about the possibility of qualification and can begin as early as possible.

  5. paper 1 ... People have attempted more than 85... might go negative.. paper 2 was qualifying only so no need to discuss it..it was too easy.. cutoff should be around 105-110.. but can be easily inflated if tukka worked for some

  9. Guys ..let me tell you one fact...what actually peopke do...that in excitment thy use google to check their answers and try to find out arguments in favour of their answers(rather than being neutral) and gets good marks..but when official answer key comes out ...marks decrease by 10-15 number...so those who are saying cuttoff will be above 120 ...it won't ..it was factual paper....in first instance people will say .."kya easy paper tha yr" but when u will find exact answer key...u will realize that u have made small small mistakes and it will cost u 10-20 marks..and predicting cuttoff is not an easy task but..fir b if u are getting above 112-115 ..start preparing for mains..

  20. in the question paper i find about 25 question bit tough, which only very few must have known, this leave everyone with 75 question .now it is impossible to anybody to have 100% accuracy (because of factual nature of paper).there is always possibility of having 10-12 question wrong . this will reduce score to about 58-60%.therefore i think whoever scoring above 120 (which will be very few) are obviously in,most of aspiremts will be between 100-110,and one who is scoring above 110 should consider himself in (in my opinion).

    ReplyDelete
  21. Last year only 350 candidates scored more than 90 this year also as the paper was factual most ot the candidates attempted 75-80 questions in excitement takings in view of negative marking and the prompting nature of paper I thnk this year cut off will be around 95-100

  25. After answer key majority will decrease by 10 to 15 marks... majority of people are posting only correct marks.. they are not counting negative. If someone is attempting 84..60 correct 24 wrong..his her score won't be 120..minus 16 is also there.. that's why it's creating confusion.. people are thinking cut off will be high.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Cutoff for general category wont go above 100. Last time 320th candidate scored 91.33 in paper-I. 9 marks difference is much more if we consider the level of paper. Also increasing score in gs requires so much efforts. People scoring 100+ Start preparing for mains.

  27. Kya raddi paper tha. Is HPPSC looking to hire clerks this time via HPAS exam?
Such standard of exam pushes deserving candidates out!
Cutoff is not gonna go above 100 I believe as intake will be 60-80 more junta thanks to increased vacancies.

But seriously, what a shitty paper!! this is wannabe UPSC behaviour by HPPSC. They will follow the pattern and all but while framing the questions they show their aukaat!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Cutoff isn't what you're scoring minus 1 mark.. So those who are scoring above 120 and saying cutoff would be 120 keep this in mind that Hppsc will short out 380+ candidates not just you.

In my opinion cutoff won't go beyond 105 ( Considering randomness of the paper and the shitty questions asked by Hppsc). So all those scoring above 100 start preparing for mains rather than wasting your valuable time in this endless speculation of cutoffs.

I don't know why people have so many complaints from hppsc. You people know HPPSC from a long time ,you know how hppsc sets paper ,its level,Its not in 2017,that they put facts and factual questions,From the date of HPAS inception ,they are using this method. You must have prepare according to that,so why cursing hppsc .Each paper has its own level ,demands different type of preparation.
For u it is 4th class paper, upsc sets 1st class paper.idhr kyun muh maar re ho age tumhare level ka paper ni hai.

It was very general paper.. it's high time hppsc should introspect.. question should be of utility nature in future.. otherwise as an administrator you won't stand anywhere in front of indian administrative services in field. I have huge respect foreveryone. Definitely in prelims it doesn't make difference.. difference is visible when you are in field and work with ias people.. then you realise difference. This paper was very general.. and don't blame each other..those who are in are in.. but we can apprise commission definitely about this..so next time they won't repeat such blunder.

Questions asked yesterday was quite easy and 2 options can be easiky eliminated but surity to option went wrong...so I did...Aftr exam all have said paper easy tha...but while checking answer it seems that quite tricky it was...

  50. Hello Friends,

    My own analysis is following:

    1. Gk paper: I expect my 40 question right and 20 wrong. Hence hence around 70 marks in paper 1

    2. Aptitude: I am sure around 70 to 75 are correct and 15 at most are wrong. Therefore my score will be around 130 in paper 2
    Hence I expect a sum of 70+130 = 200
What is possibility of clearing for main. Any guess SHARMA Brother...

  76. 1) Anybody in the range of 103-105 should start preparations for mains.

    2) those counting marks of paper one and paper2. You seem to be appearing for the exam for the sake of appearing.
Apka paper 1 ka score agar range me hai to theek. Next time please read the advertisement seriously.

3)Uttarakhandi bhai.....Aapne advertisement bilkul bhi achhe se nhi pada. Ye hamara uttarakhand nhi hai jo poora paper UP/ Bihari ki junta ke liye banate hai aur unse hi mains bhi check krwate hai..
The advertisement says clearly about desirable qualification of knowing customs, dialect and culture of himachal. Thats why people get less marks in interview and i find it justifiable by the board. I am also from uttarakhand but completely support this desirable qualificattion.
Bahar ke bande dehradun, shimla, solan ,haridwar pe tikne ke liye kuch bhi krte hai.. no outsiders wants to go to hill/interior districs of these two states.
Aap mains dene me apni energy waste na kare..i might sound disappointing you but then this is the fact.

But reality is different. This paper was seeming easy. Choices were too close.. either u know answer or you not. Dekhna isme bhuat logo ke negative bhi utne hi honge. Sabko yahi lag rha hai jo unhone kiya wahi theek hai.. it was factual exam. Choices were very close. Aur jo log banasur ka question karke aayne hai it's clear unhone tukke bhi mare hain

Corals are not just warm-water creatures. They also live at depths of 40m down to 2,000m, in water temperatures as low as 4ºC.
Although fishermen and a few scientists have known about cold-water corals for nearly 250 years, it’s only in the past few years that we’ve had the combination of advanced technology and political will to begin to explore them.

Unlike tropical corals, cold-water corals don't have symbiotic algae living in their polyps so they don’t need sunlight to survive. They feed solely by capturing food particles from the surrounding water. Their polyps tend to be much bigger than tropical corals.
Cold-water coral reefs are commonly found where current flow is accelerated. They are found on the continental shelf, and also in deep-sea areas with topographic highs, such as seamounts, mounds, ridges, and pinnacles.
Deep-sea corals grow slowly (5-25mm a year), but over time they form extensive reefs. The largest reef yet discovered, off the coast of Norway's Røst Island, is 40km long and 2-3 km wide. Another Norwegian reef has grown to a height of 165m above the surrounding seabed. Radiocarbon dating of coral from the Sula Ridge off Norway suggests that the reef complex, the second largest in the Northeast Atlantic Ocean, has been growing for around 8,000 years.
Deep-sea coral reefs are made up of only a few coral species but they provide a home for many other animals, including sea fans, sponges, worms, starfish, brittle stars, sea urchins, crustaceans, and fish.
The number of invertebrate species on reefs in the Northeast Atlantic Ocean can be as high as that found in shallow-water tropical reefs. Although the number of fish species is relatively low (20-40 species compared to 3,000 species on some tropical reefs), cold-water coral reefs do attract large masses of fish and, like their tropical cousins, serve as important spawning and nursery grounds.
