Baba Kashi Ram: Baba Kashi Ram was born on 11th July 1882 in Dehra
gopipur of Kangra district. He took part in freedom struggle actively.
He pledged to wear only black clothes until India gets independence. In
1937 Pt. Nehru gave him the title of Pahari Gandhi.
Bhagmal Sayhta: Bhagmal Sayhta was born on 23 September 1899 in Dhar village of Shimla district. He joined freedom movement in 1922 and took part in Praja Mandal movement. He later led the Dhami movement in 1939. He was sent to jail many time.
Padam Dev: Padam Dev was born on 26th January 1901 in village Bhamnol in district Shimla. He participated in non-cooperation movement and civil disobedience in 1930. He was the founder member of Himalaya Riyasti Praja Mandal and fought against the Reet, Beggar and Untouchability. He was elected to assembly in 1952 and became first Home Minister of the state. In 1957, was elected to Lok Sabha, 1962 territorial council and again in 1967 for Vidhan Sabha. He was popularly known as Kaviraj.
Yash Pal: Yash Pal was born on 3, 1903 at Bhumpal in district Hamirpur. During his college he met Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev and joined the extremist group Hindustan Socialist Republican Army (HSRA). HSRA planned to blow up the train carrying Lord Irwin in 1929. Yashpal detonated that bomb. After the arrest of several leaders Yashpal helped Chandrashekhar Azad to reorganize HSRA. He was arrested in 1932 and remained in jail for 6 years. He was a gifted author and had written many books including the famous 'Simhabalokan'. He was awarded with Sahitya Akademi Award and Padma Bhushan.
Daualt Ram Sankhyan: Daualt Ram Sankhyan was born on 16th December 1919 in Panchayatan of district Bilaspur. He actively took part in Praja Mandal movement and later agitation against the Raja of Bilaspur. He went to jail a number of times. He became state president of congress party in 1957 and was a minister for a number of years.
Krishnanand Swami: Krishnanand Swami was born in Khanakagli village of Mandi district. He joined Indian freedom struggle in 1921-22 actively. He also participated in the quit India movement in 1942. In 1952 he was elected to the Himachal Pradesh assembly.
Lal Chand Prarthi: Lal Chand Prarthi was born in 1916 at Naggar in district Kullu. He started social service and actively took part in the quit India movement. Later he was elected to the state assembly in 1952, 1962 and 1967.
Major Som Nath Sharma: Major Som Nath Sharma was born on 31st January 1923 in Jamu. He hailed from Dad in Kangra district. His father was Major A.N. Sharma. He got commission in Army in 1942, on 3rd November 1947 he sacrificed his life, while fighting against Kabayli in Kashmir. For his inspirational courage, the government of India confirmed him with first Paramveer Chakra posthumously.
Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar: Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar was born on 4th August 1906 in village Bhagthan in district Sirmaur. He did law from lahore and Doctorate from Lucknow. He remained on several judicial posts during the british rule. Upon the formation of the constituent assembly of India in 1946, he represented Himachal Pradesh. Later he became the first Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. He is also known as the founder of Himachal Pradesh.
